    Women's clothing chain Chico's FAS, Inc. has had nine consecutive years of double-digit same-store sales, unprecedented in the retail industry. A single-brand company with a market cap of $100 million in 1993, it now has three brands and is worth approximately $5 billion. It has been among the top nine companies in the S&P 7000 for the last 10 years. Scott Edmonds became president of Chico's in 2001 and CEO in 2003. He recently spoke to GDSI about the company's attempt to get back on the path to high performance.

    When did you start the journey to building a high- performing management team?

    Back in August 2004, our executive team was typical of many management teams-infighting, underground activity, misalignment, functional rivalry, you name it. That's when we began the process.
