Performance Management

A multi-billion dollar financial services firm, with multiple business lines and offices nationwide identified the need to overhaul its performance evaluation system. Based on recent employee attitude survey results, specific issues indicated unclear performance goals, insufficient quality/quantity of performance feedback, and no clear relationship between performance and compensation.

GDS conducted focus groups with managers and employees throughout the organization to further identify specific system needs, facilitated a cross-business steering committee of senior line and human resources executives to guide new system development, and created all system tools. GDS also designed and managed the system implementation, including a first year implementation strategy to ensure success. As part of the first year system implementation, GDS created a two- part employee training process:

  • training 750 managers using a just-in-time approach to ensure they received specific performance management skills when they were needed
  • conducting train the trainer sessions for human resources generalists who trained a 2300 person non-management workforce in their role and accountability in managing their own performance
